Fairview Technology Center
The availability of employment opportunities is one of the more
important factors that influence the economic well-being of our
community. With this in mind, Knox County has developed, and The
Development Corporation of Knox County currently operates
Fairview Technology Center, a business incubator facility.
The main objective of the Fairview Technology Center is to
support and encourage the creation of technology-based
businesses by providing them an affordable work environment. By
offering quality office and laboratory space at a rent that will
not restrict young companies' growth, the incubator facility
makes it possible for them to devote more of their capital to R
& D, testing, and future production of goods and services. By
making available a 12-member, multi-disciplined advisory board,
the Center provides experienced advice on business issues.
Fairview Technology Center thus provides assistance to companies
when they need it most - in their formative years. Fairview's
goal is to enable young companies to move into private,
market-rate space as soon as they are financially able to do so.
Fairview Technology Center is looking for companies that have
the potential to produce a commercially feasible product or
service that will create jobs and foster other business
opportunities. The companies which occupy the center must also
show a clear commitment to our community and an intent to remain
in this area after they have moved from the center. By that
time, they should have attained the financial stability which
will allow them to contribute to our future economic growth.
Networking Benefits
The greatest resource offered to every Fairview Technology
Center occupant is the Center's Advisory Board. These
volunteers, representing diverse disciplines, are available to
every tenant as needed to discuss strategy or simply sound out
business issues. Other valuable technical assistance is also
available through the local Small Business Development Center,
University of Tennessee Research Foundation, Areawide
Development Corporation, Tech 2020, and Economic Ventures, Inc.
